Hong Kong Heritage Tour 香港傳統文化之旅

The activity was held on a warm day on 2nd November 2008. A total of 36 people signed up for the tour around the New Territories. 

The tour first departed from Central at 9am for Bamboo Forest Monastery and 500 Lohand Temple. Although the walk to the monastery was a little steep, the group was delighted to visit the well maintained monastery and the tour guide, Nam, gave very informative commentary about the history of Buddhism, origin of various Buddhas and different stories about the religion. 

After visiting Bamboo Forest Temple and 500 Lohan Temple,  the group set off to visit the Tang's ancestral hall, which is one of the biggest ancestral halls in Hong Kong, and subsequently they also visited an interesting residental house in a walled village Lo Wai in the neighourhood. The group showed extremely interested in the structure of the house and also very delighted to see that it was still very well maintained albeit its over 100 year history.

Subsequently, the group went to the final stop, Tai Fu Tai Mandarin Mansion, before lunch. The mansion is the residence of a very famous mandarin, Mr Man, who used to be a respectable and knowledgeable man in Hong Kong and he was well respected by his fellow villlagers. His house showed signs of his extensive western knowledge even before the doors of China was actually opened to the western world. 

Finally, a delicious traditional lunch in "Pun Choi" style was arranged for the participants and most of the group participants indicated that they enjoyed the delicious lunch at the foot of Pak Sin Mountain.
