Re.:   Christmas Greetings and Golden Jubilee information

Dear all,

These past weeks, during the celebrations of the GOLDEN JUBILEE, have provided us with wonderful experiences. The feeling that Rosaryhill is a very large family has really been reinforced.

I wish to extend to you the usual festive greetings for this time: MERRY CHRITMAS to you all and your families. Many of you who will read this letter had your first experiences of Christmas when you were students in the school. I wish that the Christmas feelings you learned in the school come back again to your hearts, that the love of Jesus makes the difference for you at this gloomy time our world is facing.

Up to now we have had the THANKSGIVING MASS cum OPENING CEREMONY of the Golden Jubilee, later we had the first Academic Talk under the care of Mr. Barrie Ho, architect, the GALA DINNER and the OPEN DAYS. All of these events have helped to create a very special feeling in and around the school at the moment. The Thanksgiving Mass and Opening Ceremony were simple, solemn and fulfilling events to start our celebration. Monsignor John Tong celebrated the Mass and the highlight of the Opening was the presentation of awards to all the school staff who witnessed the historical moment.

Mr. Barrie Ho delighted his audience of students, staff and parents with his talk regarding his architectural works. He places great importance on his secondary schooling.

The Gala Dinner was a very important and relevant occasion. Many past students from abroad, mainly from Canada and the USA, came especially for the occasion. The response was really great. Everybody felt so much a part of the school. The joy of bringing together past and present staff, students and parents was truly rewarding. On the morning of the Gala Dinner a significant group of past students came to school for Mass: which was a good way to start this great day. (The photos can be seen in the school WebPages.)

The Open Days were also very well supported. We do not have a record of the numbers of persons who attended. The only reference is the number of times the school buses ferried people to and from the school. Most of the time the buses were filled with visitors: altogether there were 119 bus trips. We also maximized the parking facilities for private cars. The majority of the visitors were past students from different years, from those who graduated in the late 60s, to those who have recently left school. The people who prepared the Open Days and worked during the two days felt happily exhausted after two days of receiving visitors, entertaining them and chatting with them etc.

Finally, I should mention the Award that the School has received from the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in HK also with occasion of our Golden Jubilee celebration and for the work done by the Fathers, most of us from Spain, during these 50 years in Hong Kong. It is one more reason why we should enjoy our happy celebration!

All of these experiences over these past months have only magnified our feeling of joy as Christmas approaches and we wish to share it with you all, because all these events belong to all of us.

There are coming events, the MUSIC GALA on 29 March 2009 being the main one. We will keep you informed about it.

A relevant event will be the FLOWER MARKET, on the morning of 24 January 2008, with occasion of the Chinese New Year. Once again the 3 PTAs will join hands to prepare a successful “New Year Carnival” for all! (More information will come soon.)

Once again we entrust our work and ourselves to our Lady of the Rosary, our Patroness, with the confidence that she will continue bestowing her blessings on all of us.

Yours sincerely,

Fr. Francisco de las Heras

Supervisor
