Rosaryhill School Scholarship 26/06/2008

ROSARYHILL SCHOOL

ROSARYHILL KINDERGARTEN  24 June 2008  To:  Rosaryhill past students, parents, students and teachers Re.: Golden Jubilee Scholarship

You may be aware of the Golden Jubilee Scholarship which was on the school web and OSA web pages. I now wish to tell you a little bit more about it.

I am pleased to say that a Trust is being set up with trustees to monitor and manage the investment of the funds and the award of the scholarship. We are fortunate to have some past students helping out in the setting up of the Trust, including Anita Lee, Thomas So and Edith Shih. The Trust deed has now been prepared and submitted to the Hong Kong Inland Revenue for approval. With an approved Trust, donations to the Trust would be exempt from Hong Kong income tax. With thr Trust set up. It is also possible to raise additional funds in future. There will be three trustees for the Trust at the outset: myself – Supervisor, Mr. Francis Tsung  - Principal of the Secondary Section and Mr. Edward Ng – Chairman of the OSA.

It is intended that the seed fund for the Scholarship would come from the Gala Dinner. The main surplus of the Gala Dinner, after payment of the expenses of the dinner and partly the expenses of the Golden Jubilee celebration, will go toward the Scholarship. According to our original target, this endowment sum should amount to about $1,500,000. Obviously, the amount finally raised depends on the response to the dinner, and in particular, the support for the higher valued tables. With regard to the application of the Scholarship, given that the funds will be just sufficient for limited awards now, we thought of awarding one person in each level of the sections in the school for their good all-round performance during the year so we will take into account the academic performance of the awardees as well as their participation in social and extra-curricular activities and functions, both within and outside the school.  Up to now, the response to the Gala Dinner has been encouraging, however, the amount being raised for the Scholarship is some way away from our target as mot of the tables reserved now are the lower valued ones. I therefore urge you to consider donating funds in addition to the basic price of the Dinner ticket of $750.00. The success of the Scholarship depends entirely on your generosity, without which it would not materialize. You all have spent some happy and fruitful years at Rosaryhill. I hope you can help enrich the studies of our current and future students. Jacmi Cheung (Tel No. 28355113) would be pleased to provide further information on making donations. The preparation of the Dinner and the Golden Jubilee celebration is progressing well and we will soon be able to make further announcements on the programme that evening, as well as the names of Fathers and teachers who will be attending. We look forward to a successful and rewarding gathering of past and present teachers, staff and students of RHS & RHK. Thank you for your support. Fr. Francisco de las HerasSupervisor
